ConnectM’s EBMS Solution

Energy forms an important part of the operating expenses of a building and hence is a suitable candidate to focus on for lowering recurring costs. ConnectM’s EBMS is a solution which addresses all the energy assets in a building by looking at both direct and indirect savings in energy consumption. By way of controlled monitoring, measuring and applying innovative tools, the energy consumption can be brought down by an amount as high as 10% ( both direct and indirect savings combined).

What is unique about the ConnectM EBMS?

  • EBMS is far more advanced in what it can offer.
  • Wireless feature of the EBMS solution bypasses the hassles of handling existing cable infrastructure thereby saving significant time and cost.
  • Unlike the typical situation today, EBMS solutions can ensure timely installations.
  • The ease of installation and maintenance and the scalability of the solution contribute to adherence of schedules.
  • EBMS is also relevant for customers who are only looking at implementing the solution to some parts of the building, and are interested in expanding it at a later stage.

Direct and Indirect Savings through EBMS
  • EBMS as an offering is a tool of direct and indirect saving which results in long term optimization.
  • One of the areas where energy can be saved directly is in the area of cooling, which amounts upto 40% of the energy consumed in a building.
  • The ConnectM EBMS solution focuses on lighting, which contributes up to 20% of the energy consumption in a building.
  • Indirect savings is possible through the monitoring of other energy assets like DG Sets, UPS, Precision ACs, and other energy consuming assets in the buildings.
  • The DG Sets, UPS, Precision ACs contribute significantly to energy consumption of the building, depending on the type of applications.

The solution also keeps a check on the energy efficiency & health of the equipment thereby saving valuable time and costs for the customer. With the EBMS tool, the practice of energy consumption tracking of various assets can be done. Health monitoring helps address two important aspects - one is the uptime of the equipment and second is the actual energy consumption. With this monitoring, inefficient energy consumption or downtime situations can be avoided proactively.

How this solution is different from the other solutions in the Indian market?

Most of the EBMS solutions in India have not been indigenously developed and hence may not be customized for Indian users. Clearly, the challenges faced with Indian buildings are quite different from those faced abroad. The ConnectM EBMS solution addresses this concern, and has been conceptualized keeping Indian conditions in mind. Moreover, significant flexibility has been built into the system allowing the user to customize based on their preferences seamlessly.

The importance of LEED Certification- and how ConnectM plays an important part in getting this certification

Buildings are responsible for 38% of all human Green House Gas emissions – (GHG ) and the industrial sector contributes the most to climate change. However, according to the IPCC, it is also the sector which presents the most cost effective opportunities for GHG reductions.

Customers also benchmark with new buildings, and companies typically have improvement plans in place. The LEED certification is gradually becoming a necessity for building owners. LEED certification for existing buildings is critical and ConnectM can help in this through the implementation of the EBMS solution. The customer has to first ready the building in terms of infrastructure, and also has to adhere to certain standards for water, energy, ventilation, and lighting. Only when these standards are met, can a certification for the building be applied for. The ConnectM EBMS solution allows for easy inspection by regulatory agencies by providing access to energy savings data. Thus, EBMS can aid in getting the certification done.

Overall Benefits

Businesses will benefit from energy savings which will have a positive impact on the environment. The solution will help companies in cutting operating costs and become more environment friendly. The solution also enables CO2 monitoring, and ensures that employee productivity is maintained, by taking care of any non-conducive environments. By providing healthier environments, building owners can also command higher rental values and increase the level of comfort for tenants. For the maintenance companies, EBMS ensures ease of the availability of information and problem diagnostics.

The ConnectM EBMS solution has recently been introduced in Noida and carries great potential in a world that is increasingly conscious about saving energy and becoming greener.

ConnectM’s Asset Management Solution

The Indian construction industry is an integral part of the economy and a conduit for a substantial part of its development. The industry is poised for growth on account of industrialization, urbanization, economic development and people's rising expectations for improved quality of living. Construction constitutes 40% to 50% of India's capital expenditure on projects in various sectors such as highways, roads, railways, energy, airports, irrigation etc and is the second largest industry in India after agriculture. It accounts for about 11% of India’s GDP.

More specifically, infrastructure development has been identified as a major thrust area as emphasized through such projects as Bharat Nirman, Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojana, the National Highways Development Programme, airport modernization etc.

While, it is a growing industry the challenges they face are also fast increasing. Increase in commodity prices, higher energy costs, volatile capital markets to name a few are all adding to the woes of the industry.

There is thus, an increased need to improve operations and organizations the world over are adopting various techniques to do so – the use of machine-to-machine (M2M) technology is one of them. For those organizations with many field assets, it becomes critical to constantly monitor and control these assets efficiently. Collecting the data in real time and using it to make operational and business decisions is therefore an essential requirement for companies with significant field assets.

And this is where ConnectM’s Asset Management Solution acquires significance. ConnectM’s Asset Management Solution provides access to real-time information, improves the customer experience, reduces the costs, optimizes the resource utilization, and also improves operational efficiencies.

Implementation of the solution:

The Client

Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. (HCC) is a leading engineering, construction and infrastructure development company with a rich heritage of experience. The company, established over eight decades ago, specializes in large-scale infrastructure development deploying new age construction technologies. The Company has managed and executed several technically complex and high value projects across segments like transportation, hydro & nuclear power generation, marine, irrigation & water supply projects as well as integrated urban development and management. Lavasa City and the Bandra Worli Sea link are some of the more recent projects handled by HCC.

Business Challenges

HCC uses large quantities of cement and other raw material for manufacturing concrete, which is a major component of its construction works. HCC, has its batch mixing plants spread out across the country at various locations. Some of these locations being in remote areas pose a challenge because of their terrain and weather conditions.

The consumption of cement and other raw materials used by the various projects across the country needed to be tracked on a real time basis, so that HCC could plan efficiently for the future and also maintain optimum supply chain for their inventory.

To keep track on the project costs and timelines, HCC was keen to track on real time basis, planned and actual consumption of the raw materials and output. The company also felt the need to track the different kinds of mixtures used for the manufacturing of the concrete and this was significant as each batching plant produces anywhere from thousand to five thousand tons of concrete every month.

Other issues encountered were unavoidable errors and delays in data entry of the actual consumption of raw material data from site.

ConnectM’s Solution

ConnectM deployed its Asset Management Solution, to resolve the challenges faced by HCC. The solution was used to aggregate and analyze production data, process inputs and provide Batching Plant utilization information.

The Benefits

The ConnectM solution enabled HCC to look at actual data, as well as real time data. The data can now be input in real time enabling the client to track the actual and real time consumptions. “The solution has also helped HCC in tracking and planning the inventory of material, thereby ensuring more efficient planning of production”, says Mr. Mahendra K, Assistant V.P - Information Systems.

The solution also helped HCC in optimizing the process by facilitating daily updates of the data and delivering savings in time.
Says Mr. Mahendra, that “In the beginning, of course we had some teething issues in deploying the solution, but this was responded to effectively and in a timely manner by the ConnectM team. Since then there has been no looking back! Through this one ConnectM solution, a large number of our day-to-day operational challenges have significantly reduced thereby enabling our managers to remotely focus on important aspects of project execution. We have seen tangible benefit in deploying the ConnectM Remote Asset Management solution for our Batching Plants”
